Bogosi Msutwana BSc(Eng) MSc DIC

Mr

DPhil Candidate

Biography

Bogosi Msutwana is reading for a DPhil in unsteady hydrodynamics of tidal stream energy in the Wind and Tidal Energy research group under the supervision of Professor R.H.J. Willden.

Bogosi graduated from the University of Cape Town with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then obtained a masters degree in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, where he conducted computational research on supercritical carbon dioxide in turbomachinery.

Thereafter, he worked at Reaction Engines, Oxfordshire as an aerothermal engineer, conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and reduced-order modelling of heat exchangers. He then joined the Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures (EPSRC CDT) to commence his current research.

Research Interests

  • Turbulence synthesis and closure
  • Rotor hydrodynamics
  • Tidal channel (blocked) flow
  • Offshore renewable energy

Current Research Project

Project: Three-dimensional flow physics of tidal stream rotors. Furthering understanding of tidal turbine response to the unsteady offshore environment, as part of the integrated CoTide programme.
